Dr. Gretchen Schlientz grew up in Liverpool, NY. Owning an animal hospital was her dream when, at 16 years old, she started her career in the veterinary field. Dr. Schlientz held many positions in veterinary medicine—initially starting as an animal caretaker and eventually became an office manager—prior to becoming a veterinarian. She attended St. Bonaventure University before studying veterinarian medicine at Ross University and the University of Illinois. She returned to Central New York to work before purchasing Tara Animal Hospital in October 2014 from Dr. Ken Hodgson.
Dr. Schlientz has been a member of the Central New York Veterinarian Medical Association (CNYVMA) for 5 years, supporting the organization as President since 2017. She lives with her husband, son, two dogs, and cat (all rescues) in Syracuse.
